Cocreator


The company has been experimenting with AI image generation in Paint for a while, and early versions of Cocreator have been available to developers and Windows Insiders since the fall. But with the introduction of CoPilot+ PCs, the feature is now official.

During a demo at its Surface event, the company showed off how Cocreator combines your own drawings with text prompts to create an image. There’s also a “creativity slider” that allows you to control how much you want AI to take over compared with your original art.

Perplexity

The year-old search engine , whose founders previously worked in A.I. research at OpenAI and Meta, has quickly become one of the most buzzed-about products in the tech world. Tech insiders rave about it on social media, and investors like Jeff Bezos — who was also an early investor in Google — have showered it with cash. The company recently announced that it had raised $74 million in a funding round led by Institutional Venture Partners, which valued the company at $520 million. Many start-ups have tried and failed to challenge Google over the years. (One would-be competitor, Neeva, shut down last year after failing to gain traction.)  But Google seems less invincible these days.   Many users have complained that their Google search results have gotten clogged with spammy, low-quality websites, and some people have started looking for answers in places like Reddit and TikTok instead.

BYU study

Thousands of students are doubtless relying on ChatGPT to prepare for finals this time of year. Instructors less initiated into this ever-evolving, new AI tool might be curious — what exactly are their students doing with it? Probably quite a lot of things, according to a recent study conducted by a group of BYU professors who had that very question. When ChatGPT burst onto the scene in early 2023, the professors noticed all kinds of confusion on social media about who should be using it and why. They decided to ask 455 BYU students to share the prompts they’d fed ChatGPT and the instructions their teachers gave them about the new tech.
