Sarcasm

This can make it hard for virtual assistants and programs that analyze feelings to understand what we mean.

Researchers at the Speech Technology Lab at the University of Groningen, Campus Fryslân, are tackling this challenge head-on. Xiyuan Gao, Shekhar Nayak, and Matt Coler have developed a novel “multimodal algorithm” that delves deeper than just words to detect sarcasm with greater accuracy.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is also reportedly developing a voice assistant with sarcasm detection and improved customer service capabilities. The new technology may include audio and visual recognition, better logical reasoning, and potential applications like tutoring and providing information about surroundings.
