Tribeca Film Festival

Sora is a revolutionary text-to-video model developed by OpenAI. It allows creators to generate video clips based on textual descriptions. This technology opens a treasure trove of possibilities for filmmakers, enabling them to bring their visions to life in ways never before imaginable.

Jane Rosenthal, co-founder and CEO of Tribeca Enterprises, emphasizes the importance of storytelling in driving change. She highlights the diverse nature of storytelling, encompassing feature films, immersive experiences, and even AI-generated shorts. Her excitement for the creativity that will emerge from this collaboration with Tribeca alumni is infectious.

This program, a joint effort by Tribeca Festival and OpenAI, goes beyond simply showcasing the power of AI. A group of selected filmmakers received in-depth training on the Sora model, which is still under development and not accessible to the public.

Interestingly, the filmmakers were required to adhere to the terms established by the Directors Guild of America (DGA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) in 2023 regarding the use of AI in filmmaking, even if their works wouldn’t necessarily fall under the purview of these guilds.
