Because it's our puzzle?

"So nitrogenases are what allows you to make fertilizer. And like, when people talk about like adding nitrogen to the soil, what they mean is they’re taking some kind of nitrogen gas and they’re doing some chemical reaction and the nitrogen ends up in the soil.

"And actually, you know, we do this when we’re trying to extract nitrogen from food and things like this.

"And, the sort of behavior that underlies these sorts of reactions are not very well understood.

"For example, I think I saw a talk on this recently, there are certain kinds of transition metals that appear in your complex. And they’re somewhat far away from where the action is happening in the chemical reaction.

"But somehow they’re very important in the behavior of these molecules in these reactions.

"And, this is in the search of finding better, more efficient ways of producing things like fertilizer. And producing fertilizer is actually really energy-intensive.

"And if we can understand this better, then maybe we can then engineer better chemical reactions, engineer better ways to perform this procedure."
