Wikipedia sees decline in human traffic


"'This gradual shift is not unique to Wikipedia. Many other publishers and content platforms are reporting similar shifts as users spend more time on search engines, AI chatbots, and social media to find information. They are also experiencing the strain that these companies are putting on their infrastructure.'

"Miller said that the [Wikimedia] Foundation is 'enforcing policies, developing a framework for attribution, and developing new technical capabilities' in order to ensure third-parties responsibly access and reuse Wikipedia content, and continues to strengthen its partnerships with search engines and other large re-users. 

"The [Wikimedia] Foundation, he said, is also working on bringing Wikipedia content to younger audiences via YouTube, TikTok, Roblox, and Instagram.

"However, Miller also called on users to 'choose online behaviors that support content integrity and content creation'."

Digital ID tracking system

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has moved forward with regulations establishing a smartphone-based national digital ID and tracking system, disregarding objections from organizations like the Identity Project. These new rules are based on the REAL-ID Act of 2005 and set the standards for how states will issue digital versions of driver’s licenses or ID cards, which will be accepted by the TSA and other federal agencies for certain official purposes. However, these rules do not extend to airline travel, where no ID is legally required, despite the TSA’s misleading statements to the contrary.
