zooniverse

"Zooniverse is a major player in highlighting the work of citizen scientists. The platform, accessible via zooniverse.org, has at the time of writing 2 900 566 (sic) registered volunteers working on projects from arts and biology to space and social science.

"For the citizen scientists who take part in the projects, the process is rewarding and enjoyable in itself, but it also supports active research and results in journal publications.

"'We're so grateful to MNRAS for highlighting discoveries made possible through Zooniverse and its volunteers,' says Dr Laura Trouille, vice president of science engagement at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, and Zooniverse principal investigator. 'These papers celebrate not just scientific progress, but the power of public participation in research'."
