"An internal review was conducted, and security recommendations were passed on by the Queensland Audit Office (QAO). However, almost a year later, Noosa Council lost $2.3 million in a similar fraud attack. About $400,000 was recovered, leaving ratepayers $1.9 million out of pocket.
"It was not until last month that Noosa Mayor Frank Wilkie announced the council was the victim of the scam, which occurred in December 2024.
"Cr (sic) Wilkie said police told the council not to speak about the investigation, and that he was never made aware of the Gold Coast Council incident or findings."
